After being prosecuted in June 2011 for failing to address extensive damp and mould growth in his property in Blenheim Walk, Corby, Ranbir Parmar of Bradford Walk has been taken back to court for once again failing to comply with an Improvement Notice.

The initial Improvement Notice, issued in August 2010, had not been adhered to, and the state of the property became worse. A further Notice was issued in November 2010 which required Mr Parmar to take remedial action to a collapsed ceiling in one of the bedrooms. This required the replacement/repair of the ceiling and re-plastering of the area to match the existing decoration, which Mr Parmar failed to carry out.

Corby Borough Council prosecuted Mr Parmar at Kettering Magistrates Court on 24th October to which he pleaded Guilty. He was fined £750, ordered to pay £1,000 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Mr Parmar has also been ordered to inform Corby Borough Council before renting the property back out in order for the appropriate checks to be made.

Corby Borough Council’s Lead Member for Environment, Cllr Peter McEwan, said:

‘We try and work with landlords at all times and have recently brought over 80 empty homes back in to use by doing so, however, when Notices are being blatantly ignored we are forced to take action. Allowing a property to get in to this state is not acceptable and we need to ensure that it is a safe and comfortable environment for tenants to live before we allow the property to be let back out.’
