Recommendations on the transparent use of risk assessment in decisions on food safety have been welcomed by the Food Standards Agency.

Food safety: Food outlet owner pleads guilty to food hygiene charges
Mr Hai Lin, the owner of New Sing Lee, a Chinese restaurant at 28 Eastbourne Road pleaded guilty at Darlington Magistrates Court on December to four food hygiene offences and was fined £3000 and also ordered to pay Darlington Borough Council costs of £350.

Health & Safety: Warwick Castle Fails in Bid to Overturn £350,000 Fine
In April last year, following a 7 day trial, a jury convicted the company that operates Warwick Castle of two health and safety offences. The prosecution followed an accident in December 2007 when George Townley, a visitor to the Castle, fell 14 feet from the Bear & Clarence Bridge, suffering fatal head injuries.
