From E. coli contaminated bean sprouts in Germany, to cantaloupe melons with Listeria in the USA, to preserved olives and cheeses with Botulism in France closely followed by warnings here in the UK of catching E coli from unwashed vegetables, there never seems to be a day go by without serious warnings of food poisoning issues somewhere in the world

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has revised its consumer advice on the consumption of sprouts and sprouting seeds. Following the E. coli outbreak in France and Germany earlier this year, the European Commission has informed EFSA that the EU Member States have now completed tracing activities across the food chain.

The Health Protection Agency’s annual conference, Health Protection 2011, held at the University of Warwick yesterday, revealed to delegates that raw bean sprouts were identified as the main vehicle of transmission in a national outbreak of Salmonella Bareilly food-poisoning.
