Local residents and visitors are invited to a free talk hosted by the Environment Agency, detailing the improvements made to the Sence Valley Forest Park.
The £20,000 improvements project was funded through Environment Agency Flood and Biodiversity enhancements money, which is used to implement Water Framework Directive improvements. The project was completed in partnership between the Environment Agency, Forestry Commission, Lafarge Aggregates and Sence Valley Volunteers Trust.
Improvement work included re-grading and widening sections of the River Sence within the Sence Valley Forest Park, adding river gravel and large wood structures to create a suitable habitat for spawning fish and other wildlife and slow the flow of the river. Works also saw the removal of a rock weir and the addition of a couple of bends along the River.
Chris Farmer from the Environment Agency’s Fisheries and Biodiversity team will deliver an informal talk on why the works were carried out and a general explanation of how the new features will benefit the wildlife found there.
The talk will be held on Tuesday 19April 2011 at David Wilson Clubhouse, Ibstock Football Ground, Ashby Road, Ibstock, at 7pm ready for a 7:30pm start. The talk is free and open to anyone with an interest in the project.
