Bournemouth nightclub iBar fined £3,000 for electrical defects.

More than 20 electrical defects were identified at the Holdenhurst Road club but bosses failed to make them safe, Poole magistrates were told.

The operator was fined £3,000 and ordered to pay £1,641 in costs after admitting failing to undertake work needed to make the electrics safe, an offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Officers from Bournemouth council’s Environmental Health and Consumer Services department took court action after the operator failed to fix hazards including broken, missing or exposed toilet light fittings, water ingress to the air conditioning and incorrect overcurrent protection.

“Thankfully no one was hurt by the electrical hazards posed at the club, otherwise this could have been a very different story,” said environmental health officer Ben Sims.
