A past owner of a Knossington pub has been fined £22,149 for food hygiene offences.

Overview
The Melton Times reported that food safety officers visited the Corby-based pub after a diner found a fly in her meal and discovered there was no manager to complain to.

At that time the pub was owned by Kelly Taverns Limited.

Food safety officers found slimy meat, a large amount of long-standing grease on the kitchen ceiling and walls, a fridge containing rodent-gnawed boxes of food that couldn’t be closed properly due to ice build up and a stench of rotting food.

The pub has since been purchased by a new owner who carried out a nine-month refurbishment before re-opening.

Outcome
Melton Council prosecuted Kelly Taverns Limited. The company pleading guilty to six food hygiene offences and was fined £22,149.
