A former takeaway owner has been fined £265 after council inspectors found rats and insects at his premises.
This is Staffordshire reported that Curry in a Hurry, in Waterloo Road, Cobridge, was owned by Raja Ullah aged 58, of Stonor Street, Cobridge, when Stoke-on-Trent City Council inspectors visited on July 29 last year.
Environmental Health Officers found rat droppings on the first floor of the building and in the rear yard. The inspection also revealed cigarette ends, rat droppings and insect larvae of hide beetle on the first floor.
Live beetles were found under the sink which was used for washing food and dishes and larvae was found under cooking equipment in the serving area. A dead, decomposed rat was found on the flat roof of an outside window.
Ullah agreed to shut the premises so work could be carried out.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council prosecuted Raja Ullah. He pleaded guilty numerous food hygiene offences and was fined £265, was ordered to pay a £15 surcharge and £450 costs.
