Newham Council have started a 10-week consultation that could see it become the first borough in the country to license all private landlords. Hopefully, this will deal with their ‘super sheds‘ problem.

A man who annoyed his neighbours with loud amplified music has been prosecuted at Barking Magistrates’ Court.
Environmental Protection: Air quality concerns halt supermarket expansion
The Planning Inspectorate has halted Sainsbury’s plans to expand a supermarket in Sheffield after dismissing the firm’s air quality impact assessment. It is the first major retail development to be refused for this reason.

Food Safety: Soil on vegetables associated with E. coli O157 outbreak
Consumers are reminded to thoroughly wash vegetables and observe good kitchen hygiene following an investigation into 250 cases of gastrointestinal illness caused by an unusual strain of E. coli O157.
Food Safety: Alliance Fish Marketing Ltd fined £2250 for Food Hygiene Offences
Alliance Fish Marketing Ltd, owners of Alliance Fish and Ocean Pantry on West Pier, Scarborough have been fined £2250 after pleading guilty to food hygiene offences at Scarborough Magistrates Court.
Food Safety: Slough Ming Chinese Takeaway fined £7,481
The owner of the Ming Chinese takeaway has been fined £7,481 by Maidenhead Magistrates Court. Mr Koon Fai Hui was prosecuted by Slough Borough Council for his restaurant, in Scarfell Road, being heavily infested with cockroaches causing the food to be unfit for human consumption and a threat to public health. He was also prosecuted for failing to have adequate procedures in place to control pests.

Newham could become the first borough in the country to license all private landlords. The east London council has just started a 10-week consultation. Councillors will then consider giving it the green light.

Two new task force teams are being set up in Newham to tackle the growing menace of ‘super sheds’ – ramshackle illegal buildings in gardens often housing people living in squalor.
