A local resident has been prosecuted after failing to comply with a statutory notice to clear waste from their garden.

Hull City Council brought the prosecution against Mr Karakas following complaints from residents. Despite issuing a notice on 13 February to clean up his garden, he refused to do so leaving the Council no option other than to prosecute, and arrange for the garden to be cleared.
Mr Mehemet Karakas, River Grove, Hull failed to attend Hull Magistrates Court on 30 March 2012. In his absence he was fined £435 with an additional £275 costs and £15 victim surcharge for failure to comply with notice served under section 80 Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Justine Mortimer, Neighbourhood Nuisance Manager, said:
“People don’t have to put up with their neighbours having untidy gardens or using them as rubbish tips. The Council will take action against those who do not comply with the notices we issue.
“There are no excuses for not disposing of rubbish and waste, we have weekly household collections, bulky item collection and three household recycling centres for residents to use.”
