The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) have published ‘The Way we live now: What people need and expect from their homes’. The research report sets out how people are using their homes now, what they look for when choosing a home and what they think needs to happen to improve the home-buying experience. The report, the first of its kind for over 50 years.

Housing: Newham’s licensing scheme reaches a milestone
ALL 257 private rented properties in a key Newham ward have now been licensed. Newham Council achieved the milestone earlier this month (May) in Little Ilford. That ward – which has been officially declared a Neighbourhood Improvement Zone (NIZ) – is seen as just the start by the council. It wants to extend the scheme to cover the whole of Newham. It would become the first borough in the country to license all private landlords. Consultation is currently underway.

This case involves an Appeal against an Improvement Notice served by London Borough of Bexley, relating to a Category One hazard of ‘Excess Cold’.
The London Panel dismissed the Appeal.

This case involves an Appeal against a demand for recovery of expenses served by London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, in relation to Improvement works carried out by them.
The London Panel dismissed the appeal as the Appellant was unable to show any grounds for questioning its validity. However, the Respondent’s Administration Charges based on 30% of the costs of the Improvement works are too high.
