Steven Wild of Hazel Grove, Preston appeared before Preston Magistrates Court on Friday 25 May 2012 and was sentenced to pay a £100 fine, £185 towards the prosecution costs and £15 victims’ surcharge thereby making a total of £300, which Mr. Wild asked to be deducted directly from his benefits.

Preston City Council brought the prosecution after Mr Wild breached a notice requiring him to clean up the faeces on three separate occasions, between January and March 2012.

Councillor Robert Boswell, cabinet member for environment, said:

“Dog owners have a responsibility to clean up after their dogs and maintain a clean, safe environment, even when on their own property. Dog owners who don’t clean up after their pets pose a health risk and in this instance are a nuisance to their neighbours.

“Although prosecution is a last resort, in this case the notice was ignored on three occasions and as a result we had to take action.”
