The BBQ Xpress on Station Road N22 and the Adaugo Express Ltd of High Road, N15 were visited in October by Haringey Council food safety environmental health officers who discovered filthy, rodent infested conditions in both premises.

The BBQ Xpress was infested with rats and mice and food was at risk of contamination. The premises were immediately closed down and a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order issued under Food Safety legislation with costs of £485 awarded to the council.

The premises remained closed until the business had been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected and food safety officers were satisfied that the public were no longer at risk.

The Adaugo Express Ltd was also found heavily infested by mice. Droppings were found throughout the premises, food items had been gnawed and food packaging was contaminated with mouse urine and droppings.

The premises was closed down immediately and a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order was issued under Food Safety legislation, with costs of £787 awarded to the council.

The premises remained closed until the businesses had been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Both businesses have now reopened but will be closely monitored by food safety officers to ensure food safety standards are maintained.

Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:

“I am very concerned that businesses in our high street have shown such a shocking disregard for public health and cleanliness. Action by Haringey Council has paved the way for a thorough clean up of both restaurants. This just shows how important it is that inspections take place in order to protect the public.”

Both businesses may now face prosecution for failing to follow food safety regulations.
