Hill City Council has prosecuted a man after his was found transporting large amounts of scrap metal in various locations in Hull.

Jason Brian Whincup was found with the goods as a result of Police stop checks of vehicles on the 5, 17, 18 and 19 of July 2012.

After a notice under section 34(5) Environmental Protection Act 1990 was served, Mr Whincup failed to produce any documentation in relation to the scrap metal, where it was from or how he had disposed of it.

Following the notice, Mr Whincup attended the Magistrates Court on 26 April 2013 and pleaded guilty to the offence. He was fined £110, costs of £200 and victim surcharge of £15, totalling £325.

Councillor John Hewitt, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Communities said:

“The public and businesses need to be aware that in order to transport waste as part of a business they must be a registered waste carrier and must keep receipts and transfer notes for collection of their waste and it disposal. Licences for this can be obtained from the Environment Agency”.
