Basildon Council’s Environmental Health Team successfully prosecuted the owner, Peter Buu Quang Huynh, who pleaded guilty to seven food hygiene offences on Friday 2 August at Basildon Magistrates’ Court.

Mr Huynh, who owns the Good Food Chinese, in Ballards Walk, was ordered to pay a fine of 7,000 plus a £120 victim surcharge. The council was awarded costs of £1976 bringing the total to £9096.

Phil Easteal, manager of environmental health and community safety, said:

“Mr Huynh’s Good Food Chinese clearly had some not so good food hygiene problems. He had plenty of chances to improve the food safety of his premises but continued to go against advice and flout the rules.

“In March this year Mr Huynh even received free coaching from the council in partnership with the Food Standards Agency on food hygiene but, despite this, standards did not improve sufficiently.

“I would like to congratulate the council’s environmental health officers for their professionalism and thoroughness on this case.”

The offences, which occurred on 6th November 2012 include, failure to produce adequate food management paperwork, failure to ensure staff were trained in food safety, failure to store food in appropriate conditions, failure to minimise the risk of contamination, failure to provide hand washing facilities, and failure to keep the premises clean.

Despite numerous visits by the council’s environmental health officer Mr Huynh continued to fail to meet the required standards, leading to his prosecution.
