A man has been ordered to pay £1,755 after failing to clear a piece of land he owns in Hull.

Mr David Yeoward of Brooke Drive, London was ordered to pay the fine (made up of £600 fine, £340 default works, £755 costs and a £60 victim surcharge) on the Friday 24 January at Hull Magistrate’s court.

Residents in the area of Wellstead Street, Hull had complained to Hull City Council about the state of the land which was then followed up with several formal and informal attempts to contact Mr Yeoward including the issue of a legal notice.

After failing to clean up the area, Hull City Council was left with no alterative but the clear the area incurring costs of £340 and to prosecute Mr Yeoward in accordance with Section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

Councillor John Hewitt, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Communities said:

“This is the 6th prosecution undertaken by the Neighbourhood Nuisance Team in the Wellsted Street area since it was designated as a priority area.

“We hope this sends a clear message to absent owners that failure to maintain any type of property will not be tolerated”.
