Draft Prosecution Statistics for 2013

I have produced a table of local authority prosecutions that will be used to formulate the prosecution statistics for 2013. Please take the time to check through the list and contact me if you feel I have missed prosecutions undertaken by your council.

This post will be removed on Friday 16th May. It would be appreciated if you could provide any prosecution details or comments by that date.

If you would like to include your local authorities’ data in this statistical release (for calendar year 2013) please forward details of your prosecutions to [email protected]. Please provide the following details:

• Name of your LA
• Date of prosecution
• Name of person/ business prosecuted
• Type of prosecution (food safety, health & safety, housing, etc)
• Outline of the offense
• Fine
• Costs
• Total fine

I welcome any suggestions on how I can improve the statistical release.

Notes on Prosecution Stats

1. Fines & Cost will be shown where details are given (for example, some council provided details of total costs only)
2. This analysis only includes prosecutions were fines and/ or costs were awarded.
3. Only prosecutions carried out by environmental health departments are included. Therefore, HSE, planning and FSA prosecutions are excluded.
4. This analysis includes prosecutions that were posted on the site between 1st January 2013 and 31st December 2013.
5. The victims surcharge is excluded from the calculation
6. Smoking prosecutions have been separated from Public Health prosecution because Public Health fines significantly lower.
7. Local Authority prosecutions were divided into the following eight categories:

• Environmental Protection
• Food Safety
• Health & Safety
• Housing
• Illegal Eviction & Harassment
• Public Health
• Smoking
