  • Council: Hull City Council
  • Fine: 12 months conditional discharge
  • Costs: £500
  • Total: £500

Karen Alexander of 18 Southcoates Lane, Hull, attended court on 28 February and pleaded guilty for committing the offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Alexander received a conditional discharge for 12 months and was ordered to pay £500 costs plus a £15 victim surcharge.

On the 11 July 2013 a fly tip was found on the children’s park on Danepark Road in Hull. Evidence was found in the waste which referred to the clearance of a property in Hull by Supreme Solutions.

Alexander attended an interview and confirmed that she held no waste carrier licence to transport waste and no evidence of transfer notes or receipts for disposal of her business waste.

She also failed to take reasonable steps to prevent a fly tip occurring by employing someone unlicensed to transport waste.

Councillor John Hewitt, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Communities said:

“The Council provides an excellent, reliable and competitively priced service to dispose of business waste. We also provide free information for traders on compliance with current waste legislation.

“Businesses have a duty of care in how they dispose of waste and anti-social behaviour like this is a crime which poses a risk to human health, wildlife and in this case, children playing on the park.”
