Two people have been taken to court by Caerphilly County Borough Council and fined in the last week for committing environmental offences in the Caerphilly county borough.

A Caerphilly resident has been ordered to pay a total of £135 for a dog fouling offence in Caerphilly, and an Oakdale resident ordered to pay £175 for littering following a hearing at Caerphilly Magistrates Court on 7th January 2013.
Howard Evans of Coed Cae, Caerphilly was found guilty of failing to remove dog faeces at Lansbury Park, Caerphilly in July 2012, and was subsequently ordered to pay a fine of £75 together with costs of £45 and a £15 victim surcharge.
Bethen Hopkins of Beech Grove, Oakdale was prosecuted for discarding litter from a vehicle at KFC car park in Blackwood, and was ordered to pay a £75 fine along with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge, whereby a 14-day collection order was made.
The cases were pursued through the courts following non payment of initial fixed penalty notices issued to both individuals for the offences.
Cllr David Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said, “These two people, collectively, have been ordered to pay a total of £310 for committing environmental offences in our county borough, which is no small amount by any means. Fines such as these help us to stress that this type of irresponsible behaviour cannot and will not be tolerated. I would urge any resident who witnesses offences of this nature to report it without delay.”
