On Friday (January 18) Basildon Magistrates’ Court heard that Thurrock Council Environmental Protection Officers were called to the Brisbane House home of Abby Moon on 7 April, last year after neighbours complained of loud amplified music.

Despite requests by officers to turn the music down, it continued and a Noise Abatement Notice was served. Complaints were made again the following evening and at the end of April, and on both occasions officers who attended the scene heard loud music coming from the address.

In court, Moon pleaded guilty but claimed that she had not been present when the offences took place. Magistrates however said the address was hers at the time of the offences and was therefore her responsibility. Moon has since moved to Feenan Highway.

A fine of £50 was imposed for the first offence, and £150 for the second breach. Moon was ordered to pay £60 towards costs, and a £15 victim supplement.

Thurrock Council portfolio holder for Public Protection Cllr Angie Gaywood said: “Noise is a horrific nuisance which plagues victims causing stress and lack of sleep and can affect every part of life.

“As this case shows we will take action against those who blight their communities with this form of Anti-social Behaviour. The clear message to our residents is behave or face prosecution.”
