A Kingston Hill landlord who failed to ensure the safety of her tenants is more than £5,000 out of pocket after being convicted of breaching rules governing housing in multiple occupation.

Sysben Shadrawy, aged 52 from Ealing, was charged with offences including failing to provide fire doors, smoke alarms and emergency lights.

Council inspectors found the property, occupied by seven students, in disrepair with rotten windows, missing stair rails, exposed wiring and penetrating damp.

Despite written warnings from the Council to improve the property, Shadrawy did not provide adequate responses and failed to provide gas and electrical safety information.

Mrs Shadrawy pleaded guilty to four offences under the Housing Act at Richmond Magistrates Court and was fined £3,500 and ordered to pay £1,720 costs.

A spokesman for Kingston Council’s Property Inspection Team said:

“We are determined to safeguard the rights and wellbeing of tenants and promote good practice in the private rented sector. Landlords are advised and offered support on the conditions required to ensure tenant safety but where conditions are not met action will be taken.”
