On the 28th March 2013 at Merthyr Magistrates Court, Ria Jones, of 7 Lupin Close, Gurnos Estate, Merthyr Tydfil pleaded guilty to breaching a Noise Abatement Notice served by Merthyr Tydfil CBC Environmental Health Service. During the investigation Ms Jones had various electronic equipment seized by the Council.

Sentence was deferred to the 22nd May 2013 on the basis that the Council were also pursuing a Criminal Anti Social Behaviour Order (CRASBO) on conviction.
Ms Jones position throughout was that she would not accept a CRASBO, despite the witness evidence recording 134 incidents of loud music or television. After further discussion, agreement was reached on a two-year CRASBO effective immediately, the terms of which are that Ms Jones must not:
- play amplified music or television sounds at 7 Lupin Close, Gurnos Estate, Merthyr Tydfil which is audible in neighbouring properties;
- instruct or allow others to do so.
In terms of sentencing for the breach of the Noise Abatement Notice, Ms Jones was fined £120.00, ordered to pay costs of £240.00 and the £15.00 victim surcharge, making a total of £375.00.
Cllr Chris Barry, Cabinet Member responsible for Environmental Health, said: ‘The total disregard shown by Ms Jones for her neighbours and their well being left the authority no option but to address Ms Jones activities through the courts. This has been a costly and time consuming process but the Council will not hesitate to act where the circumstances warrant such action’.
