The David Edward Crone and Leo Crone, the two directors plus J.Lochner (Darlington) Ltd, the company itself, entered guilty pleas to five food hygiene offences found during a routine inspection by Darlington Borough Council’s Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) in July 2013. The offences related to not keeping the premises and equipment clean; storing raw food alongside ready to eat food in the walk-in chiller leading to cross contamination and the sanitary accommodation was not kept clean. In addition, food handlers were not supervised or trained in appropriate food handling.
The offences were when 26 contraventions of food safety legislation were found.
Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, said:
“The Council’s food enforcement officers will always take action to protect the health of the public. The vast majority of food premises in Darlington demonstrate compliance with food hygiene legislation and respond positively to advice they are given.
“The public have access to the food hygiene rating of all food premises in Darlington from the Council Website. Those premises rated 5 have the best rating. When J Lochner butchers shop was visited standards had fallen significantly below what is acceptable.”
