A man has been prosecuted after failing to clean up a property in owns in Hull.

Mr Norman Allen Aitken of 3 Ruthven Lade, Huntingtowerfield, Perth, Scotland failed to attend court on Friday 31 January was prosecuted and fined a total of £1,275 (£200 fine, £250 costs, £805 compensation order (default costs) and £20 victim surcharge).

Aitken failed to comply with a notice served under section 80 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 which ordered him to clear up a property at 11 Cornwall Gardens, Wellsted Street, Hull that was reported to be in awful condition.

Hull City Council attempted to contact Aitken several times regarding the state of the property, but after the condition did not improve, a legal notice was served. This notice was not complied with and consequently the waste was removed by Hull City Council and legal action taken.

Councillor John Hewitt, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Communities said:

“We hope this sends a clear message to absent owners that failure to maintain any type of property will not be tolerated”.
