A Hull man has been prosecuted under the Control of Pollution Act for failing to produce a waste carrier licence.

Steven Atkinson of Bainton Grove, Hull attended court on Thursday 13 March and pleaded guilty after he had been observed on numerous occasions transporting waste on a horse and cart and then failing to produce his authority to transport the waste.
He was fined £300 plus costs of £350 and a victim surcharge of £30.
Atkinson was also sentenced to 45 days suspended custody on account of non-payment of outstanding fines/costs.
Councillor John Hewitt, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood and Communities, said:
“Anyone wanting to trade in waste removal needs to obtain the appropriate licence that is issued by the Environment Agency.
“If they can’t produce the paperwork when asked, they will be prosecuted. This case proves that.”
Registered waste carriers can be checked at the Environment Agency website or calling 03708 506 506.
Residents are also encouraged to ensure they have proof of payment, never pay by cash and make a note of the name of the person and vehicle registration number removing the waste.
