Owners of a Sheffield cafe have been fined £6,ooo after a 3-year-old child found a knife blade while eating a scoop of ice cream.
The Star reported that a grandmother purchased the ice cream for the 3-year-old girl from the Love Coffee on The Gallery at Meadowhall, Sheffield, on 5th March last year.
Council prosecutor Paul Barber told the Sheffield Magistrates:
“The girl took a mouthful of the ice cream and ended up with part of a craft knife blade in her mouth.
“It got there because of a failure by the management system to avoid that risk.”
Sheffield City Council prosecuted DJ & C Foods Ltd. The Company pleaded guilty to placing unsafe food on the market and were fined £6,000. In addition, they were ordered to pay £1,058 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
