The owner of a Middlesbrough cafe has been fined £600 after poor standards of hygiene were found during an investigation into the alleged sale of unfit food.
Middlesbrough Council reported that on October 26 last year, Environmental Health Officers discovered a widespread mouse infestation when they visited Fresh on Victoria Road, central Middlesbrough.
A Senior Environmental Health Officer from the Council said: “The severity of the infestation presented a serious risk to the safety of foods prepared and served at this food business.
Middlesbrough Council prosecuted Café owner Nazim Shabir. Shabir pleaded guilty to charges under the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 for failing to keep his premises and food equipment clean, failing to manage risks to food safety, and failing to ensure that adequate procedures were in place to control pests.
Shabir was fined £600 and ordered to pay costs of £443 plus a £15 victim surcharge.
