A University student who made neighbours’ lives hell by playing loud music has been fined £105.

Overview
An investigation by Environmental Health Officers from Bristol City Council began in response to complaints from frustrated neighbours. Neighbours complained that Stephen Baker had the volume turned up so loud that people living adjacent to his basement flat in Clifton couldn’t even hear their televisions.

Environmental health officers served an abatement notice ordering him to control the volume of his music. However, two days later they were called out by neighbours complaining about “very loud and intrusive” music coming from the rear bedroom.

Outcome
Bristol City Council prosecuted Stephen Baker. He pleaded guilty to three charges of failing to comply with abatement notices under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

He was fined £105, ordered to pay £105 towards court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
