The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has released provisional data for the year April 2010 to March 2011, which shows the number of workers killed throughout the UK and in a variety and industries.

The statistics show:

The number of workers killed in England last year has increased. The number of workers killed was 171 an increase on the previous year, when 147 died – the lowest number on record. The rate of fatal injury is now 0.6 per 100,000 workers, up from 0.5 per 100,000 workers the previous year.

The number of people killed at work in Scotland is at an all time low. The number of workers killed was 15 – down from the previous year, when 21 died. Over the last five years, the average number of workers killed in Scotland each year has been 28.

The number of workers killed in Wales last year has increased. The number of workers killed was 12- an increase on the previous year, when 7 died.

The number of workers killed in the agriculture industry last year has slightly decreased. The number of workers killed was 34 – a decrease on the previous year when 39 died.

The number of workers killed in the construction industry last year has increased. The number of workers killed was 50, an increase on the previous year, when 41 died.

The number of workers killed in Britain’s waste and recycling industry last year has sharply increased. The number of workers killed was 9 an increase on the previous year, when 3 died.
