The prosecution was taken by Belfast City Council following health and safety inspections of Poundstretcher stores in Connswater Retail Park, Cityside Retail Park and Castle Street in April 2011.
Belfast Magistrates Court heard that environmental health officers observed that the sheer volume of stock and the storage and retrieval of stock items posed serious risks to the health and safety of staff. Further inspections in May and June 2011 indicated the company had not addressed the risks.
This is the second occasion that Belfast City Council has prosecuted Poundstretcher under health and safety legislation.
