Food Safety: Schmallenberg virus (SBV) identified in UK livestock
Tests by the Animal Health and the Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA) have confirmed the presence of Schmallenberg virus (SBV) in livestock samples submitted since January 2012 from a number of farms in the south and east of England.

Food Safety: Fortune Cookie fined food hygiene offences
Mr Hoi Shan Leung, owner of the ‘Fortune Cookie’ takeaway at 52 Coombe Road, Kingston upon Thames, was prosecuted by Kingston Council’s Environmental Health & Trading Standards Department on the 14 February 2012 for 7 offences under food safety legislation, including failure to keep the premises clean and in good repair and failure to control pests including rodents.

Food Safety: Basildon business fined for food hygiene offences
A food catering business owner has been found guilty and fined £3,015 for nine separate food hygiene offences, at Basildon Magistrates Court on Wednesday 15 February 2012.
