Manchester City Council and police officers executed a warrant to enter the house on Finchley Road, Fallowfield, and seized equipment including two Technics records decks, a mixer, an amplifier and speakers.

The City Council have now confiscated the equipment and the students will have to pay £450 if they want to get it back.

The seizure followed complaints from residents about loud parties coming from the house, and City Council officers warned the student occupants about their behaviour before serving a noise abatement notice in March.

City Council officers seized a music system from the house after students broke the noise abatement order the following month.

But complaints from residents continued and so officers returned to the house on Friday June 8 to seize a second batch of equipment.

The students will now face prosecution and a fine of up to £5,000 if they break the order a third time.

Councillor Bernard Priest, Manchester City Council’s executive member for neighbourhood services, said: “Manchester residents should never have to put up with noisy neighbours playing music at unacceptable levels and where people report problems to us we will take action by seizing the equipment that’s been used to make people’s lives hell.

“If problems continue we can and do take matters further by bringing people before the courts.”
