Cardiff Council has successfully prosecuted a landlord following breaches of the Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation Regulations (Wales) 2006.

Housing: St Annes landlord prosecuted for failing to keep tenants safe from fire
A fire in a flat at 49 Park Road, St Annes, Lancashire on Thursday 2nd December 2010 in which the occupant was fortunate to escape serious injury and a complaint made by local residents and information received from Fylde Borough Council, prompted an inspection by Fire Safety enforcement officers of seven buildings owned by Lytham landlord Mr Neal Gilligan.

Housing: Landlord’s £15000 in fines for risking safety of tenants
A landlord faces a total of £15,702 in fines and costs after being found guilty at Watford Magistrates Court of nine offences relating to the safety of tenants at his rented property in Bishops Rise, Hatfield.

Public Health

Public Health: Half of Legionnaires’ cases in retuning holiday makers
Around half (116) of the 235 cases of Legionnaires’ disease reported to the Health Protection Agency (HPA) in England and Wales in 2011 were in returning holiday makers. The annual number of Legionnaires’ cases has fallen from 355 cases in 2010, when around a third (114) were in returning travellers.

RPT Decisions

RPT Decision: Prohibition Order Appeal (LON/00BB/HPO/2012/0011)
This case involves an Appeal against a Prohibition Order served by London Borough of Newham. The Prohibition Order related to six Category 1 hazards namely: fire, excess cold, electrical hazards, lighting, damp and mould growth and falls on stairs; and three Category 2 hazards, namely: personal hygiene, sanitation and drainage, food safety and structural collapse and falling elements. The appeal was dismissed.

RPT Decision: Improvement Notice Appeal (CAM/00KG/HIN/2012/0018)
This case involves an Appeal against an Improvement Notice served by Thurrock Council, relating to a Category One hazard of ‘Excess Cold’ & Category Two hazards for entry by intruders, personal hygiene sanitation and drainage and domestic hygiene.
