On the 01 May at Bodmin Magistrates Court, Martin McColls Ltd, a national chain of newsagent/confectioners operating over twelve hundred stores across the country, pleaded guilty to twelve serious health and safety offences and was fined £25,000.

Merlin Attractions Operations Ltd, the company that operates Warwick Castle, has been convicted of failing to protect the health and safety of visitors, following a 7 day trial. The Company was fined £350,000 and prosecuting, Warwick District Council was awarded costs of £145,000 at a Crown Court hearing at Warwickshire Justice Centre, Leamington Spa on 24 April 2012.
