A survey by the National Landlords Association (NLA) has found more than half of landlords can no longer afford to rent to housing benefit tenants because of cuts to the allowance.

An unregistered gas fitter has been prosecuted for illegally carrying out work on a house in Hucknall, putting residents’ lives at risk.
An unregistered gas installer was caught illegally carrying out work on a house in Newark. Mr Phillip Birchmore, trading as PSB Plumbing and Heating, capped off a gas supply at the property in August 2010. He then removed one boiler and hung a replacement boiler on the wall. Concerns were raised about the standard of the work and a Gas Safe inspector was called out to examine it.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich has successfully prosecuted a private landlord in Thamesmead for failing to provide his tenants with proper fire safety provisions in a multiple occupation house.
The managing agents of two Liverpool properties, which were not licensed and in breach of safety regulations, have been fined a total of £3250.
