Nearly 30,000 applications* have been made by private residential landlords to Newham Council. So far Newham has carried out 750 enforcement visits, issued 1200 warning letters, and handed out 50 cautions. Thirty prosecutions, at various stages of the legal process, have been pursued since the scheme started.

In particular, concerns centred around the possibility of legal challenges on appeal of a notice or during criminal proceedings. This article provides some discussion on some of the issues involved.
