Food Safety

Food Safety: 90% of Campylobacter outbreaks at catering venues due to undercooked chicken liver pate
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) have revealed that over 90% of Campylobacter food poisoning outbreaks at catering venues in 2011 were linked to chicken liver pate consumption. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is reminding caterers to cook poultry livers thoroughly to avoid the risk of food poisoning.

Food Safety: Restaurant owner pleads guilty to food hygiene offences
The owner of a Sutton town centre restaurant has pleaded guilty to a string of offences that put the health of diners at risk.

Food Safety: FSA publish research on norovirus levels in oysters
Research published by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) shows that a significant proportion (76%) of oysters tested from UK oyster growing beds contained norovirus. The virus was detected at low levels in more than half of the positive samples (52%).

The Government has announced plans to begin a major cut back of health and safety red tape as early as January 2012. It will begin an immediate consultation on the abolition of large numbers of health and safety regulations and intents to have removed the first rules from the statute book within a few months.
