Annual Report of Incidents 2011 |
The FSA have published its Annual Report of Incidents 2011. The report highlights that in 2011, 1,714 food incidents were investigated by the FSA, compared to 1,505 in 2010. This is a further increase on the 1,208 incidents reported in 2009. The report is available here.

Oldham Council has successfully prosecuted a Shaw man after his household waste was found dumped in a beauty spot.
Food Safety
Food Safety: FSA Report shows increase in number of food incidents
The Food Standards Agency saw an increase in the number of food incidents it investigated last year. These included reports of contaminated or illegal food entering the food chain, with some potentially harmful to the public.
Food Safety: Restaurant owner fined £5,000 for hygiene offences
A Boulevard restaurant owner has been fined £5,000 following a successful prosecution by Crawley Borough Council Environmental Health Officers.
Food Safety: Bath convenience store company fined for hygiene offences
A Bath convenience store has been ordered to pay £19,932 after being prosecuted by Bath & North East Somerset Council for offences breaching food safety rules.
Food Safety: Welsh Government to introduce mandatory FHRS
The Welsh Government will introduce its Food Hygiene Rating (Wales) Bill, designed to provide consumers with more information about where they eat or buy food and raise food hygiene practices among businesses.

Housing: Wakefield landlord in court for flouting gas safety
A Wakefield landlord has been fined after ignoring repeated warnings to have gas appliances at his rented property checked for safety.
Housing: Count of gypsy and traveller caravans stats released
This release presents data from the Count of Gypsy and Traveller Caravans in England which took place on or around 19 January 2012. The twice-yearly count takes place in January and July, recording the number of caravans on both authorised and unauthorised sites across England.
Housing: Consultation launched on suitability of accommodation for homeless
New safeguards to ensure vulnerable families are placed in suitable, privately-rented accommodation have been proposed by Housing Minister Grant Shapps.

More than half (51%) of landlords and homeowners who rent out properties and furnished rooms are hiking up their prices for the London Olympics, according to a poll by SpareRoom.co.uk.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) can confirm it is investigating a recent increase in cases of the gastrointestinal infection, cryptosporidiosis, across four regions in England – the North East, Yorkshire, West Midlands and East Midlands.
