The EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) and ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) have published a report on the trends and sources of zoonoses, zoonotic agents and food-borne outbreaks in 2011. The report highlighted that there was a rise in human infections from Campylobacter and E. coli, whilst there was a fall Salmonella cases. Read the full article here.

Environmental Protection: Fined for flytipping in Tandridge
On Friday 5 April at Redhill Magistrates’ Court, Ovidiu Vlad, formerly of Swingate Lane, London SE18 2DB was found guilty of flytipping and fined £1000, as well as £250 for failing to respond to a S71 Notice, ordered to pay the Council’s costs of £1400 and £120 to the victim support fund.

Derbyshire Dales Council has been criticised by the Local Government Ombudsman for failing to tackle noise problems from a business, owned by a former Councillor.

Food Safety: Restaurant fined for hygiene offences
The company which operates The Bishops restaurant in St Davids was fined a total of £6,000 by Haverfordwest Magistrates on Monday (15th April) after admitting food hygiene offences.

This case relates to an appeal against an Improvement Notice served an HIMO by Leicester City Council. The Panel upheld the appeal and varied the improvement notice.
