The site has been updated to make video content easily available from the front page. There are a few videos available now, including the ability to stream all current and future episodes of Season 3 of Food Inspectors directly from the front page of the site.

Course Review
I recently attended the Fire Risk Assessment training course organised by Oxford City Council, in association with the Fire Protection Association. For those who wish to know about the course I have written and recoded a video review.

Free Webinar on Allergens and the new Food Information Regulations 2014
Consultants Steve Pepper & David Newsum will be hosting a free webinar on 10th June at 6pm on Google Hangouts. I will be moderating the chat room so don’t miss it.

All you need is a decent wifi connection, Google+ account and if you’re on gmail or Youtube you will already have one. Full details here. If you are unable to make it, not to worry, the video of the event will be available on the site once it’s available.

Prosecution Stats

The prosecution statistics for 2013 have been been completed and will be published in the next newsletter. For now, I can say:

  • a total of 270 prosecutions were reported (21% increase)
  • which resulted in £2,240,709.04 in fines and costs combined (6.9% increase)

On Wednesday 19 March 2014, Pizza Express Restaurants Ltd were fined £8,000 plus £2,890 costs at Peterborough Magistrates Court, in a case brought by Huntingdonshire District Council, after a woman eating a pizza at the Pizza Express restaurant, 105 High Street, Huntingdon cracked her tooth when she bit on a metal screw which had been in her pizza.

This case relates to an Appeal against an Improvement Notice issued by London Borough of Haringey. The appeal concerned notices which related to excess cold hazards.

RPT Decision: Improvement Notice (LON/00BA/HIN/2013/0001)
This case relates to an Appeal against a charge for Improvement Notice issued by London Borough of Merton.

RPT Decision: Improvement Notice (MAN/00DA/HIN/2013/0004)
This case relates to an Appeal against the costs charged for enforcement action for the service of an Improvement Notice issued by Leeds City Council.

RPT Decision: Improvement Notice (CAM/38UC/HIN/2013/0007)
This case relates to an Appeal against an Improvement Notice issued by Oxford City Council. The Improvement Notice concerned Category 2 Hazards.
