The Food Standards Agency have released eight research reports that were published in February and March 2013. The eight reports include an evaluation into reducing the shedding of E.coli in cattle in the UK, the safety of sous vide foods and new approaches for managing foodborne disease outbreaks. Food Safety: Takeaway owner fined £5,600 following rat infestation
The owner of a Chinese takeaway was fined £5,600 and ordered to pay £1,750 costs after environmental health officers found food and packaging had been gnawed by rats (Photos on Flickr).
Food Safety: Chinese Takeaway prosecuted for food safety offences
Hull City Council has prosecuted a Chinese takeaway for two food hygiene offences. Environmental Health Officers inspected Chamberlain Chinese Takeaway, 18 Chamberlain Road and found that the owner, Mr Kwok Hang Lau, had failed to put in place and implement a documented Food Safety Management System.

Housing: Landlord fined £35,000 for dangerous city centre HMO
Southampton City Council has brought a successful action against a rogue landlord who has been fined £35,000 for six offences relating to poor housing conditions and management of a house in multiple occupation (HMO) (Photos on Flickr).
Housing: Newham on the search for rogue landlords
Enforcement squads are now scouring Newham’s streets for private rented properties that have not been licensed – with criminal landlords facing fines of up to £20,000 per property.
