Public Health England and Newcastle City Council have published a report of an investigation into the outbreak of illness associated with the Street Spice Festival, held in Newcastle between 28 February and 2 March 2013. The report concludes that the use of uncooked curry leaves, contaminated with several different bacteria, was the cause of the outbreak which affected over 400 people. Food Safety: FSA presents key findings to horse meat review
At a recent Food Standards Agency open Board meeting, Professor Pat Troop presented the key findings of her review of the Agency’s handling of the adulteration of processed beef products with horse and pig meat and DNA. The final report will be published at the end of this month on the FSA website.
Food Safety: Crab processing business owner found guilty of food hygiene offences
The owner of ‘Mr Lobster’ trading from Stable Hobba Industrial Estate in Newlyn has been prosecuted for three food hygiene offences following a lengthy investigation by Cornwall Council’s Food & Safety Team that started with an initial visit to those premises on 18 May 2012.

A dirty Chinese takeaway in Sherburn in Elmet has been prosecuted by Selby District Council for failing to comply with food hygiene regulations.
