Thompsons Solicitors have teamed up with the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC ) to call for a shake-up of the Scottish health and safety system to deliver justice and a safety culture in society. The call comes after reports that reveal only 3% of complaints over health and safety failures ever lead to prosecution or enforcement notice in Scotland and that one in three workplace fatalities are not scrutinised by a Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI). Figures produced by the firm – based on the analysis of its cases – also show that it takes an average of 30 months to set up an FAI. Read the full story here. Food Safety: £10k fine for mouse droppings in baker’s kitchen
A Twickenham baker has been hit with a £10,000 fine after being caught preparing bread, cakes and pastries in kitchens where environmental health officers found dozens of mouse droppings. Environmental Health officers acted after a tip off from a resident who found a dropping in a bread roll.
Food Safety: Owners of Jimmy Spice fined for poor food hygiene
Merton Council prosecuted the owners of the popular Jimmy Spice’s Restaurant located in Wimbledon Broadway in Wimbledon Magistrates Court on Wednesday 21 December 2011 for offences dating back to March 2011.
