Clay’s Handbook of Environmental Health, since its first publication in 1933, has provided a definitive guide for the environmental health practitioner or reference for the consultant or student. This twentieth edition continues as a first point of reference, reviewing the core principles, techniques and competencies, and then outlining the specialist subjects.
A landlord in Gipton has been fined over £3000 for accepting false references from his tenants. Mr Colin Harrison, of Harrison Crescent, Gipton, was fined at Leeds Magistrates Court on Thursday 31 May for committing six offences against the selective licensing rules which operate in the Cross Green and East End area of the city. He pleaded guilty to all the offences and was fined £1000 with costs of £2447, including a victim surcharge of £15.
A landlord has been fined £5500 after tenants were discovered living in appalling, overcrowded conditions.

ALL 257 private rented properties in a key Newham ward have now been licensed. Newham Council achieved the milestone earlier this month (May) in Little Ilford. That ward – which has been officially declared a Neighbourhood Improvement Zone (NIZ) – is seen as just the start by the council. It wants to extend the scheme to cover the whole of Newham. It would become the first borough in the country to license all private landlords. Consultation is currently underway.
