We have compiled a list of 2012’s ten most popular environmental protection articles on theEHP. This list has been complied by analysing the most viewed articles on the site.
1. Noise Nuisance App Launched
NoiseNuisance.org have just launched their first mobile phone application! The App, a collaborative effort by Encentre and Three Spires Acoustics, provides a useful logging tool for noise complainants and comes with a number of additional resources.
2. Opinion: Barr vs Biffa Part 2
In April 2011 a judgement was given on a case regarding alleged odour nuisance between 2004 and 2009 from the Biffa waste site at Ware in Hertfordshire. An action group of 152 households brought forward the case with 30 households being selected as lead claimants to bring forward the action. In this case, the judge ruled in favour of Biffa. 3. Environmental Protection: Overgrown gardens costs resident £490
Michael Grieb of Southcoates Lane, Hull was ordered to pay £490 for allowing his garden to grow to an unacceptable condition.
4. Environmental Protection: Section 82 – Statistics Update
Statistics from the Ministry of Justice have recently been obtained relating to statutory nuisance prosecutions. Some of the figures stand out, particularly in relation to the use of s.82 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. 5. Environmental Protection: Resident prosecuted for having a rubbish garden
A local resident has been prosecuted after failing to comply with a statutory notice to clear waste from their garden.
6. Environmental Protection: Action taken on noisy neighbour
A noisy neighbour from hell had their music equipment seized by council officers. The action was taken in partnership with the police to stop serious noise nuisance.
7. Environmental Protection: Noise monitoring leads to eviction of tenant
THE first person to be evicted by Halton Housing Trust based on evidence gathered from noise monitoring equipment has been sentenced at court for breaching noise abatement notices.

A Preston man has pleaded guilty to failing to comply with an abatement notice relating to excessive dog fouling from his premises.

A Westminster noise enforcement officer had a lucky escape when he went to the door of a party early on a Sunday morning – to be chased by a knife-wielding naked man who had drunk two litres of the powerful Greek spirit ouzo.
