Food-related businesses in Swansea are being urged to take food hygiene seriously in 2013 after a local business was fined more than £5,000.

Luton Council successfully prosecuted two local food businesses for serious breaches of the food hygiene regulations at Luton Magistrates court.

Calderdale Council has been successful in a Crown Court case against a takeaway which was putting people’s health at risk.

Food Safety: KFC Blackwood prosecuted following council investigation
The restaurant chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (GB) Ltd, trading at North Court, Blackwood, has been taken to court and fined following a council investigation that revealed the business practised poor food hygiene standards (Photos on Flickr).

Chesterfield Borough Council has been fined after carbon monoxide fed back into one of its properties, putting the tenant at risk of poisoning.

The number of homeowners boosting their earnings by taking in lodgers has risen for the seventh consecutive year.

Housing: Family put at risk by Bradford landlord
A private landlord in Bradford has appeared in court after he repeatedly failed to produce a gas safety record for a property in Heaton where a mother lived with her two children.

Well maintained and professionally installed fire extinguishers are fundamentally safe and easy to use. Research has shown that extinguishers are successful in a significant number of fires each year and make a major contribution to first aid fire safety.

BS 5306-8:2012 gives advice and guidance on the suitability and positioning of portable fire extinguishers, primarily those conforming to BS EN 3, that can be carried by one person and that are used for the protection of buildings, other premises, contents and to assist evacuation.

RPT Decision: Interim EDMO (MAN/00CL/HYI/2012/0003 – 13)
This case relates to an application for an Interim Empty Dwelling Management Order (EDMO) by South Tyneside Council. The Panel authorised the EDMO.

RPT Decision: Improvement Notice Appeal (CHI/21UH/HIN/2012/0006)
This case relates to an Application for an appeal against an improvement notice served by Wealdon District Council. The Panel Confirmed and upheld the notice.

RPT Decision: Improvement Notice, Suspended Improvement Notice & Suspended Prohibition Order Appeal (LON/00BB/HIN/2012/0016)
This case relates to an Application for an appeal against an Improvement Notice, a Suspended Improvement Notice, a Suspended Prohibition Order and a charging notice issued by London Borough of Newham. The appeal was rejected for the reasons set out decision.
