The Strategic Society Centre, a London-based public policy think-tank, has published new research and policy analysis about private landlords in the UK. The report provides detailed evidence on the demographic, socio-economic, financial and rental characteristics of private landlords in the UK, and compares landlords to other homeowners, private tenants and the general population. A Carmarthenshire farmer, who was discovered carrying illegal meat, known as “smokies”, in his vehicle while travelling through Newport, has been fined £13,500.

Public Health: Newsagent Prosecuted for Smoking on Premises
Mr Christopher Gavin Whateley pleaded guilty at Huntingdon Magistrates Court to an offence under Section 8 of The Health Act 2006, in that he failed to prevent smoking at his premises, Whateley’s Newsagents at 82 Ramsey Road, St Ives in a case brought by Huntingdonshire District Council.
