Marks & Spencer (M&S) has reported that it has become the first major retailer in the UK to become carbon neutral. they have published their ‘2012 How We Do Business Report’, which reports on the first five years of progress of its 180 commitment eco and ethical programme, Plan A. Environmental Protection: Woman evicted for noisy antics
A noisy neighbour has been evicted from a flat following months of anti-social behaviour. Gemma Flanagan, of Brookdale, was evicted on Friday 1st June by Halton Housing Trust acting on authorisation from St Helens County Court.
Food Safety
Food Safety: Poundland fined £24,000 for mouse infestation
A store in Croydon’s Whitgift Shopping Centre has been fined £24,000 after the council’s food safety inspectors found evidence of a large mouse infestation in food storage and sales areas (Photos on Flickr).
Food Safety: Chinese restaurant fined for food hygiene offences
The owner of a Chinese restaurant has been prosecuted for nine counts of food hygiene breaches. Mr Han Kwan Chua, the owner of The Imperial Chinese Buffet, Great Oaks House, Great Oaks, Basildon, pleaded guilty to nine charges of food hygiene breaches at a hearing at Basildon Magistrate’s Court (Photos on Flickr).
Food Safety: Company director charged for dirty premises
A company director found breaching food hygiene regulations was ordered to pay more than £8000 following an investigation by Ealing Council.
Food Safety: Letchworth hotel fined after food poisoning at wedding (updated 21-06-12)
A Letchworth hotel was ordered to pay over £12000 by Hertford Magistrates Court last week after pleading guilty to two charges of poor food hygiene practice. The court heard that the Letchworth Hall Hotel had served food at a wedding in September last year which led to multiple cases of food poisoning.

Shelter is urging renters to make sure their deposits are protected, as calls to their helpline about deposit protection problems have increased by more than 80% in the last two years.

Sustainability: London 2012 leads the race by adopting new global sustainability standard
BS ISO 20121 – a new global sustainability standard which helps organizers run more efficient events – has now been published. It sets out strategies for reducing costs, carbon emissions and waste, managing the biodiversity impacts of venues and achieving a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Sustainability: M&S in now Carbon Neutral
Marks & Spencer (M&S) has reported that it has become the first major retailer in the UK to become carbon neutral. Efforts made across the company and throughout its supply chain have resulting in it meeting a total of 138 out of 180 eco-friendly and ethical commitments, with an additional 30 described as being “on plan”.
